MeteoUK is the simple yet effective UK weather app that you have been waiting for while getting fed up of trying the countless other weather apps out there.

MeteoUK retrieves a five-day weather forecast for more than 6,000 UK places directly from the official weather information provider in the United Kingdom, the Met Office, and shows it on screen with no interpretations or modifications in a quick, clean and direct way.

The weather forecast provided will show you information about the temperature, ‘feels like’ temperature, weather type, precipitation probability, humidity, wind speed, wind gust speed and wind direction. It also shows the sunrise and sunset times for the current day.

MeteoUK offers a map view where you can check graphically cloud coverage, rainfall, temperature and pressure for the next 36 hours in three-hour intervals. You can scroll right and left to see how the sky will be in the next few hours so you know whether you’ll be lucky enough to have that barbecue or whether you should turn on the oven instead. The map view also covers and shows information for the whole of Ireland.

You can store your most-viewed places in the My Places list to access them quickly.

MeteoUK retrieves automatically your position. It supports both portrait and landscape modes and supports small, big phones as well as tablets.

If you find the weather forecast inaccurate, blame the Met Office! MeteoUK does not modify the data coming from its Met Office DataPoint servers in any way.

The app contains a banner which provides a source of income for my sad life. This income is used to buy Ferraris, as unfortunately with the current amount of profit it reports I cannot afford Rolls-Royces. You can remove this banner by paying £0.79. This represents around 20% of the price of a pint of beer. However, that’s nearly enough for me to buy my dairy Yazoo dose.

MeteoUK uses seven Android permissions:

- "android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE": required to allow the app to check the connection status in order to determine whether data can be downloaded.

- "android.permission.INTERNET": required to retrieve the weather forecast on-line and the maps layers on the Maps window.

- "android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE": used by the Google Maps Android API on the Maps window to cache the world map. If you don't use the Maps window this permission won't be used.

- "android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION": used by the Google Location API on the main Window and by the Google Maps Android API on the Maps window to retrieve your current position.

- "android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION": used by the Google Location API on the main Window and by the Google Maps Android API on the Maps window to retrieve your current position in an accurate way.

- "com.google.android.providers.gsf.permission.READ_GSERVICES": used by the Google Maps Android API on the Maps window to communicate with Google Play Services. If you don't use the Maps window this permission won't be used.

- "com.android.vending.BILLING": required to enable the payment to remove the advertising banner. If you are not thinking of paying to remove the ads this permission won't be used.

The author of MeteoUK does not have any relation with the Met Office beyond the use allowed by its terms and conditions of its DataPoint service. MeteoUK does not store or track on-line on any server your position or the places you type and view.
