History

Conceived as an event to provide a collaborative framework for sports diplomacy with our Asian neighbours, commencing with Shanghai, China.

Successful pilot events held in January 2012 in Perth and October 2013 in Shanghai.

Pilots provided significant life experiences via sporting and cultural exchanges for Western Australian local and regional youth and their Chinese counterparts.

Provided a pathway and key learnings for building an event owned and operated by Western Australians.

Today

The Friendship Games is a culmination of many peoples experiences in sports and cultural exchanges. It embraces simple principles of friendship, understanding and co-operation. It is a delivery mechanism for social investment into our Western Australian youth and a framework for international co-operation. It is also a platform for sharing and providing important messages with our youth in education, health and culture.

22nd - 31st January 2015: Our invitation list has extended to:

Shanghai plus 3 additional Chinese provinces

• Young people from Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia

• Young people from regional and remote Western Australia

• Young people from metropolitan Perth

• Young Western Australians with disabilities

• Young Western Australians of any skin colour, race, religion, belief, orientation

Our objectives are simple:

• Learn from each other

• Innovate together
