Pasadena, California. Four young scientists from different fields - the experimental physicist Leonard Hofstadter, Sheldon Cooper theoretical physicist, aerospace engineer Howard Wolowitz and astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali - working together at the California Institute of Technology.

Their bond of friendship is cemented mainly by the respective social condition, as the boys of nerds and geeks in all respects. The high intelligence makes it one of the most valuable minds in the country, but against them socially inept: Outside of work, leisure, mainly between the four spends reading comic books, games video games and role plays, and the vision films and TV fiction; the absence of girls is a constant in their lives.

This routine changes when Leonard falls in love with Penny, a small-town girl with dreams of becoming an actress, just moved in the apartment opposite to that of Leonard and Sheldon. The new neighbor across the hall, beautiful and exuberant, is the exact opposite of the four friends; the strange and complicated world of children can soon collide with one simple and superficial Penny, and their quiet lives are turned upside down.
