This exemplary healthcare APP demonstrates the usefulness and potential of MHEALTHDROID framework. It is important to point out that there was almost no effort to implement its functionalities thanks to MHEALTHDROID simplicity (we spent the most of the time in the app visual appearance).

MAIN FEATURES

* CONNECTIVITY: The app allows to collect data from SHIMMER wearable devices in order to obtain physiological and kinematic data, although existing sensors in the mobile device may be also used for monitoring.

* VISUALIZATION: Visualization of any of the received data streams from the portable biomedical devices.

* STORAGE: Local and remote storage of the collected data.

* ACTIVITY RECOGNITION: Activity Recognition of the physical activity that an app user is performing thanks to an expert system built as part of the app (only available with wearable devices SHIMMER, not regular smartphones)

* GUIDELINES: To help the user to keep healthy habits, guidelines are supported through online video broadcasting and schedulable notifications.

MHEALTHDROID

mHealhDroid is a framework designed to develop biomedical applications in an easy and rapid way, under the Android operating system and to be used along with portable biomedical devices or just every Android phone with built-in sensors.

The framework offers diverse functionalities from which developers may leverage during the implementation of mhealth apps. Some highlighted functionalities are connection management and data streaming from the portable biomedical device to the mobile device, local and remote data storage from the received data, online and offline data visualization, data processing for knowledge inference purposes, management of some Android services like calls or text messages, notifications and guidelines through audio, videos and YouTube channels. All these functionalities can be incorporated to mobile applications in a really easy way, which makes the programmer task much easier and reachable for everybody with basic programming skills.
