This is a specialised tool, intended to be used by EAE (LINC) Developers whose target system is a UNISYS Mainframe. Its function is to calculate the optimum blocksize for extract files being generated.
Given the record size of a file, this utility will calculate three different blocksizes based on contributing host specific attributes:
- size of a Sector
- maximum size of a Block
- maximum number of records per Block
The results given will include the largest blocksize possible, the largest blocksize yielding the least amount of disk wastage, and the smallest blocksize yielding the least amount of disk wastage. Depending of the requirements of the generated system, the appropriate value may be used when defining the Extract Options of the related report.
This utility MAY be of use to other developers as well, as the host specific file attributes are able to be customised.
