Seattle is the largest city on the West Coast north of San Francisco. Estimated population in the city proper is 610,000 residents and another 3.4 million live in the metropolitan area.
Seattle is a major coastal seaport and is one of the busiest container ports in the United States. The cities official nickname is the "Emerald City" but it is also known as the "Gateway to Alaska", "Rain City", and "Jet City" due to the Boeing Aircraft Company which is one of the areas largest employers.
