Just run the app, set the right height, and in few seconds you will be able to get the right distance.
Pocket Telemeter uses your phone accelerometer to calculate the angulation and it applies some theorems to get the distance, so the error percentage is very small (if you keep your phone stable and don't shake it while measuring).
