These are just a few of the historic scenes and places of ever-changing Singapore captured for posterity by Liu Kang in his paintings. Liu Kang (1911-2004) is widely regarded for his contribution to Singapore's art scene as an artist and educator.
This app by the National Gallery Singapore, features ten of Liu Kang's paintings, contextualised by archival photographs, video clips and oral history interviews.
Opening in 2015, the National Gallery Singapore is a new visual arts institution devoted to the research and exhibition of art from Singapore and Southeast Asia from the 19th century to present day. Its permanent exhibitions will be complemented by international art exhibitions in partnership with world-renowned museums. Occupying two national monuments, the City Hall and former Supreme Court buildings, the Gallery will be an art and lifestyle destination for the enrichment, enjoyment and engagement of Singapore residents and visitors from all over the world.
