The Republic P -47 Thunderbolt , also known by his nickname " Jug " or "Juggernaut " was the fighter jet powered by a combustion engine only bigger, heavy and expensive history.2 It was one of the main fighters air Forces of the United States Army (USAAF ) during World War II, and was also allied air forces. The Thunderbolt was designed by Alexander de Seversky and Alexander Kartveli and mass produced from 1942 to 1945 by Republic Aviation Company , having produced 15,686 units.

The P -47 was effective in air combat but proved especially adept at ground attack . He was armed with eight .50-caliber machine guns , four in each wing. A full load could weigh up to eight tons . Its modern counterpart in that role , the A-10 Thunderbolt II , takes its name from the P -47 because of its resemblance in terms of the strength of the airframe and its use as a fighter-bomber assault .
