Brisbane (/ˈbrɪzbən/) is the capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland and the 3rd most populous city in Australia, with a population of over 2 million people. The city is named after the river on which it sits which, in turn, was named after Scotsman Sir Thomas Brisbane, the Governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825. It was founded in 1824 and sits on the east coast of Australia.
