The Reading in Colour©® (Color*) Application is a list of 1000 most frequently used sight words in the English language. Research of these sight words have proven that the first 300 sight words make up about 65% of all printed material in English.

Constant practice in learning these frequently used sight words early in your study will be a great help to all students beginning to read English. Knowing these words will definitely help your proficiency in reading and speaking English. These words are especially beneficial to school aged children 5+ as they are important words taught in the early years of schooling.

It is clear that learning these words and knowing how to use them correctly is a very important step. But, more importantly is to know how to read and say the words accurately and with correct pronunciation. Since many of these sight words have unusual spelling patterns, they cannot be easily read with confidence. There are very few visual images to help show their meaning and it can be a struggle to learn to read and spell them.

For this reason the words have been coded by color. All the vowel sounds in each of the 1000 words have been color-coded to show how the written word is spoken.
