The WITSReview is an award-winning magazine published by the Office of Alumni Relations for alumni (graduates) and friends of the University of Witwatersrand. The 64-page, full-colour magazine is published annually in January, April, July and October. Alumni subscribe to the printed WITSReview or receive it electronically for free. It is available online in Flash and PDF formats. WITSReview replaced Arena magazine in June 2007 as a communication medium between the University and alumni. WITSReview aims to strengthen and enhance the relationship between Witsies and their Alma Mater by informing, updating, celebrating and engaging alumni. Content in the WITSReview includes eminent alumni (Achievers, Profiles, Alumni with the Edge), University developments (Newsbytes, Heritage), Reviews (Alumni with the Writing Edge, book reviews), obituaries, social and events pages, and Letters to the Editor. WITSReview won Best External Magazine (2010 and 2012) at the Marketing, Advancement and Communication in Education (MACE) Awards. It won Best External Magazine (2011, 2012) at the SA Publication Forum Awards and ranked in the top 5 of all competing corporate publications in South Africa in 2012. The same competition named WITSReview Editor, Peter Maher, Editor of the Year in 2010.
