Determining voltage drop is a crucial task for engineers, electricians and the average homeowner installing a circuit. This tool will help you determine the correct wire size required to sufficiently get power from it's source to the user or device. The individual conductor resistance is based on the N.E.C (National Electric Code) Chapter 9 Table 8 and assumes the wire temperature is 75 degrees Celsius or 167 degrees Fahrenheit.
This application lets you check voltage drop for conductors from #18 AWG to 750Kcmil of AC and DC circuits.
Note that the actual ampacity and voltage drop for your application may slightly differ from these results but will be very close to those shown here. We use these exact formulas everyday in the engineering and design of power circuits. The National Electric code (N.E.C) recommends circuit voltage drops not to exceed 3%. This application will warn you when you exceed 3% voltage drop and suggest a larger conductor.
