We will, from time to time, cover what we are calling the majors: basketball and football. But our desire is to build a platform for athletes who train just as hard and, until now, have not had the media support to broadcast their stories and competitions.You say you are covering amateur sports, but many of your stories cover paid/sponsored athletes. How do you define amateur?Traditionally, amateur is defined as an athlete who competes without monetary compensation. However, with the increase of brand sponsorships around traditional amateur sports, the lines between amateur and semi-professional have blurred. We will share stories across the full spectrum of amateur, semi-professional and professional athletes. Our goal is to build a community that provides access to a greater number of sports than the traditional media model and many of these sports are traditionally classified as “amateur.”How do you decide which sports to cover?The Thrive Sports team tends to cover sports and athletes we know best.
