Meeting description: It comes as no surprise that Texas is now a “majority-minority” state or that, by 2040, Hispanics will make up 77.6 percent of the state’s population. This Texas Lyceum education and workforce event urges policymakers, educators, school board members, local elected officials, parents, community members and even students to recognize that it is no longer “business as usual” in our state. Changing tides require steering in new directions.

The focus of this summit is on education and the workforce. Discussion without action will allow the challenges to lead us off course. Rather, we need to face those challenges—poverty, Limited English Proficiency, lack of educational attainment and its impact on the economy—and create viable plans of action to turn those challenges into incredible opportunities to thrive. We will look at the hard facts, the key players, the options, and our answers. In the end, we will have solid policy recommendations for legislators, as well as immediate action items for all other key players.
