The mammary gland is composed mainly of fatty tissue, which are a group of glands that make milk. The shape and size of breast determined by the amount of fat tissue and the condition of muscles and ligaments that support it. Usually one gland is a few more than the other. At diseases of mammary glands there can be observed pain, palpatory tenderness or changes in the shape including the skin covering the gland; there may be one or more inspissations in usually soft-tissued breast. Although the majority of lesions of breast are not terrible and are easily treatable, it is necessary to be vigilant for any such changes and report them, as well as other deviations from the norm, to doctor in order to figure out the possibility of developing breast cancer (one of the most common cancers in women).
