Smoke Free @ SG|教育線上App不用買

This is an application by students from Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central.

The purpose of this app is to provide education and awareness to the public about the ill effect of smoking. Such information is already freely available on the web but most of them are not mobile friendly. With more people using their mobile phones to browse the internet, our web app will cater to a bigger audience.

One important feature on this app is the use of Singapore government data, which is the listing of Smoking Cessation Centres. Smokers with the intention of quitting will be able to get help from those centres and knowing that there is a centre around them will definitely helps.

Another critical feature is the Report Illegal Smoking function where users can report them on the map when they see someone smoking in the banned areas, such as common corridors in the HDB. The map will show the various locations where smoking violation took place. This feature is created using the Crowd-Sourcing tools from OneMap (one-stop solution for location-based information and services by SLA). The feature will be more useful, if the agencies take action on the reported case. When more smokers are aware that their actions are being watched, the number of smoking violations will reduce.

Finally the last feature in this web app is a survey which may help in the behavioral study of smoking especially among the younger generations. This tool can be used by schools to find out more about the students and hopefully help in preventing initiation of smoking habits among adolescents.
