*What does the app do?

ShirkText reads out incoming text messages without the lift of a finger. The app will walk you through the process by a voice dialog based interface.

*The app does not seem to be working at all.

Please check if you have either check box of "Only when connected to Bluetooth" or "Only when connected to AUX output" marked.

When marked, the app will work ONLY IF the corresponding output device is connected.

This is done to preserve privacy. You may not want your text messages being read out loud during classes or meetings.

*Do I have to unlock my phone before the text can pop up?

If you have pattern or PIN unlock set up on your phone, yes, you have to unlock the screen first. Android is really strict with the security stuff.

*The app is not responsive.

ShirkText uses Google Text-To-Speech and voice recognition resources to complete the tasks. The performance depends on (1)internet connection to Google's servers and (2) your device's processing speed.

*Does the app collect any data from me?

All functions of ShirkText rely on native Android functions. I neither collect data from you nor push anything to you. The only exception is this FAQ list which is updated periodically.

ShirkText requires internet connection and may result in cost from your wireless carrier.

*Does the app work with any other pseudo-text messages such as WhatsApp and Google Voice?
