What is Ratchet?

Ratchet is an app that lets you sell and buy any item easily. It is intended for you to use to buy and sell items locally, where the buyer and seller meet and exchange goods. If you want to sell your item quickly, invite all your contacts, and eventually you should be able to find a buyer. You can add value to your account by gaining likes.

Why should I Invite people?

The people you know are the people who are most likely nearest to you and your best potential customers and sellers. We allow you to pay easily and quickly using a secure payment method, PayPal.

How can I sell?

Selling is simple. Make a profile then choose “Sell It”. First the app confirms your location using GPS. Then you give the item a short descriptive title, take a picture of the item, select the price, write your specific details (like a phone number if you want to answer questions about the item etc.) and post it. Make sure you use your PayPal email address in the account area, since when the item sells, that’s the email address that will receive the PayPal funds. Payments are sent daily.

To sell an item you will actually a have to meet with the person, unless you make other arrangements. Therefore you may have to communicate using your phone number or email. Questions a buyer would have is:

How can we meet?

Where?

What time?

How can I pay?

Using PayPal protects the seller and the buyer. If you decide to use another type of payment, we cannot assist in receiving a refund. We also do not provide any buyer or seller support for items, we are only responsible for sending payments that sent through PayPal. After payment, your buyer can choose to “like” the item, which adds a “like” to your profile. If you can, ask the buyer to “like” your item after they receive it.

How can I Buy

Buying is also simple. Make a profile, have GPS confirm your location, and search within the radius you choose. A scrolling list of items will appear. You can search or scroll until you select an item. When you choose an item, you can see detailed information, including how you can contact a seller. Questions you should ask:

How can we meet?

Where?

What time?

How can I pay?

Do you offer any customer support for the item?

After communicating with the seller and choosing to buy an item, you will have the option of paying using PayPal. This is the most secure method of payment. To use our system, you have to pay a 10% fee, which covers some of the PayPal fees and also the cost for us to provide system services. Items priced lower then $10 will result in additional fees, since every transaction has a different cost. After receiving the item, you can choose to like the item, which will give the seller a “like”, which the seller will appreciate.
