It's like one of those "learn a language" tapes business people use when they travel. It's not going to make you a Linux guru, but its going to show you what you need to know to get to get by. This is a very practical book, which was clearly written by someone who uses Linux a lot and who has paid careful attention to the commands they use most often. The writing style is clear and no-nonsense. There are some good explanations of why and when to use tools, but the book is not bogged down with theory or conjecture. Its a good reference guide if you are starting off or just got into using UNIX/Linux platforms. Don't expect to become a master of UNIX/Linux world using this. Of course, using man command on your box will help you too, but it has a lot of information that will discourage you (especially if you are a new user). I suggest trying these commands out as you go since there is no point memorizing these when you can't put it to practical use. I don't suggest these for advanced/expert users.. but then again why would you go for something that has the word "Practical," in the book if you claim you're advanced/expert in the environment?"Check out for yourself!
