Public Disaster Awareness Forwarder (PDAF) is a mobile application for earthquake and storm monitoring in the Philippines. Get real-time alerts via push notification in the event of an earthquake or storm in the country.
Why disaster awareness is important?
Disaster preparedness is everyone’s responsibility. By understanding the potential risks, anticipating it and being properly prepared before, during and even after a disaster could make a difference in the life of each individual. Information is a powerful tool. While disasters like earthquake and tsunami may be unpredictable, our ability to grasp real-time information through technology can make us aware of an incoming disaster.
The aftermath of the storm Haiyan (Yolanda) is an accepted fact that disaster awareness is necessary for everyone. The goal of this simple application is to elevate the way of how disaster is communicated to every individual.
How accurate is our data source?
PDAF uses the United State Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake feed as its data source. This is a public feed offered by USGS which is updated in real-time.
PDAF uses also the feed from Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) as the central source of storm and weather monitoring.
Feeds are sourced every five (5) minutes to attain real-time accuracy of information. Earthquake feed shows all events of earthquake around the globe. Storm feed shows all current storm advisories by PAGASA. Your device will only receive push notifications if an earthquake or storm advisory in the Philippines had occur.
