Founded in March 2010 and located in the Bukit Timah neighbourhood in Singapore, My Little Spanish Place is inspired by the 'meson' , a typical home-style restaurant often found in Spanish regions.
Our philosphy is based on the Spanish saying, "Mi Casa es Su Casa", which means "My House is Your House". The first Spanish restaurant to be helmed by two chefs with strong Spanish heritage – Maria Sevillano from Salamanca, Spain and Edward Esmero from Philippines, the restaurant boasts a full-fledged menu of Spanish home-style dishes and desserts. We also offer Singapore's most complete Jamon bar and a Spanish 'Despensa' (pantry).
CHEF MARIA SEVILLANO
Maria Sevillano, the founding chef of My Little Spanish Place, grew up in Salamanca, one of the nine provinces in the Castille y Leon region. Located in the northern part of Spain, Castille y Leon is also one of the largest regions in the country. Hailing from a lineage of Spanish chefs and restaurant-owners, Maria started her gastronomic journey more than 25 years ago by helping her grandmother in the kitchens of their two family-run restaurants – a fine-dining establishment and a 'meson'.
After years of wanderlust, she decided to settle down in Singapore with her two children – a teenage son and daughter. It was her love for the food she grew up with, combined with the realisation that there were very limited authentic Spanish gastronomic offerings available here, that led her to set up My Little Spanish Place.
Just like her co-chef and business partner, Chef Edward, Maria is also very passionate about dance. Having trained from young in the art of ballet, Maria is now more inclined to dancing the flamenco and has even performed at the restaurant previously for her guests.
CHEF EDWARD ESMERO
Chef Edward Esmero, 34 years old, is the new co-chef addition to My Little Spanish Place. Born in the south of Philippines in the town of Batangas, Edward's heritage has a lot of Latino influences, as his grandmother was a Mistisa (her father was Spanish and her mum Filipina), and Edward's dad is Mexican. He grew up in an environment that exposed him at an early age to the myriad of culinary influences in his country.
Having spent many of his childhood years in the kitchen with his grandmother, Edward strongly believes that Spanish food comes from the heart and is best when cooked in a 'homely' manner, just like how his grandmother used to.
Having received trainings from both local and international chefs and winning numerous awards and recognitions from local competitions, Chef Edward pursued his passion in the field of hospitality and restaurant management in countries such as Saudi Arabia, USA, Caribbean and Singapore.
For leisure, Chef Edward has a passion for dancing. Trained in the art of Jota, a Spanish quickstep courtship dance where he is dressed in a matador's costume. He is also a certified folk dancer and member of the famous Lahing Batangan Folk Dance Group in the Philippines. However, since he has come on board as co-chef and partner at My Little Spanish Place, dance has become a form of exercise for him and he now engages more in dances such as Zumba and hip hop.
