After diversifying from phonics to grammar to maths, Mr Thorne is returning to phonics for his latest app. A simple app to be used as a tool by parents and teachers to help with word recognition using phonic decoding. The app shows a series of flash cards for the child to blend the sounds together and read as a whole word. Pressing the megaphone will allow you to listen to Mr Thorne say the word; the user should then have a go of reading the word independently. The app will show 5 different words each time you select a set of cards and as a reward for good blending, you may see a little cameo from Geraldine the Giraffe, star of her own Youtube phonics videos.Remember, this app is a tool for learning to read words using the phonics approach to reading.There is a final set of flash cards for words that are tricky (was, said, people, is, etc) and these words are encouraged to be learnt by sight.
