The Mumbai Monorail is a monorail system under construction in the city of Mumbai, India as part of a major expansion of public transport in Mumbai. The project is being implemented by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), with a consortium of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and a Malaysian infrastructure firm Scomi Engineering. It will be the first monorail in India, since the Kundala Valley Railway and Patiala State Monorail Trainways (PSMT) were closed in the 1920s.Construction began in January 2009.
Vilasrao Deshmukh, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, cleared the notification for construction of a monorail system in Mumbai on 18 August 2008. The system will traverse through Jacob Circle, Wadala, Mahul and Chembur, providing a feeder service to the existing Mumbai Suburban Railway
