Summary

This weather widget (and associated app) provides a detailed and visually appealing weather forecast, allowing you very quickly to understand what to expect when you venture outdoors.

Key Features

The weather chart provides plots for temperature (actual and/or "feels like"), rainfall, air pressure, and cloud cover, along with weather symbols that follow the temperature profile. Daylight hours (sunrise and sunset times) are also shown visually on the chart for added clarity and information.

Wind conditions are neatly presented using conventional wind arrows that have been used by meteorologists for centuries, encapsulating both speed and direction very conveniently in a single symbol.

Despite the wealth of information available in a single chart, because of the way in which the information is presented visually, the key features of the weather can be very quickly understood.

The app

With the app, a meteogram is opened up in full screen, and is interactive. Clicking on any time point will open a pop-up with more detailed information about the weather at that time point.

The widget

With the home screen widget, you can place a resizable meteogram directly onto your device's home screen. The meteogram is updated in the background to keep the forecast up to date. This provides an immediate and convenient view of the weather outlook, without even having to open an app.

The widget is initially placed as a 4x2 widget, but thereafter can be dragged to any size you like! The widget features resize intelligently to provide a clear representation, no matter what size is chosen, even showing in landscape format if more appropriate.

Handily, you can place multiple widgets onto your home screen, each relating to a different location and each having a different appearance.

Both

Extensive customisation of the appearance of the meteogram is possible, and you can also choose the number of hours you wish to appear (anything between 1 and 220 hours, though some choices will look better than others).

You can display a meteogram for practically any location on Earth, via a simple lookup feature. Or, instead of manually setting the location, you can ask the meteogram to detect (and follow) the device's location, so that the weather forecast is relevant wherever you happen to be!

Weather Data

You have a choice of weather data providers: met.no (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, who supply data to yr.no) and forecast.io (who supply data for the popular Dark Sky app for iOS).

The forecast.io source provides hourly forecast data, not matter where you are, whereas for met.no it is only three-hourly outside of northern Europe. However, since forecast.io charge for data usage, it is available for ongoing use only in the pro version.

Free v Pro

The full set of customisation options is only available in the free version for a limited period of use, after which only basic customisation is possible (though your existing settings will remain).
