Memories of the Future is a location based cinema project created in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx, NY. Fifteen spoken word poets wrote texts from the point of view of an element in the landscape that had witnessed a significant event in their lives. Well known spoken word artists such as Caridad “La Bruja” De La Luz and Simply Rob Vassilarakis contributed to the piece, as well as several new writers. Performances were shot on location, beginning with a view of the past at the Hunts Point Six Train subway station, and ending at the Bronx river. Together, the texts describe an area in need of urban spatial justice from a human perspective, creating a portrait of the Hunts Point landscape that is both gritty and at times beautiful.
