Practice safe browsing, always verify links no matter the source!
Link Check is a free URL checker that will verify a given URL to ensure that you will always know the actual destination without opening the link in a browser. The application can be launched by clicking on any link from email or messaging or it can be manually launched and the URL in question can be typed in and checked. Additionally, Link Check will attempt to find any client redirects on the page (e.g. javascript redirects/meta refresh).
Link Check now provides geolocation (geographical location) information courtesy of freegeoip.net! The Country, Region or State, City, and Zip Code will be displayed if the information is available. For more information on geolocation see http://freegeoip.net.
Possible uses include:
Prevent phishing attacks by the true destination of a link
Expanding URLs (shortened from sites such as bitly)
Identifying potentially malicious redirects
Verifying server redirects
Verifying destination IP Address
Identifying possible client redirects
Geographical Location of URL (powered by freegeoip.net)
After viewing a URL in the Link Check application the option to open that link in a browser is provided to the user by clicking the globe (Open in Browser) icon in the action bar. If Link Check is set as the default action for opening links this will clear that option allowing the user to select the browser.
The map (Open in Maps) icon in the action bar will open the user's Maps app and automatically display the location of the URL host (providing the information was available). This capability is not supported for all devices.
If Link Check is set as the default for opening links the user can reset this, if they so choose, by clicking on the app settings and under "Launch By Default" the user can click Clear defaults.
