Background:
I recently moved to Japan and I'm studying for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test(s). I tried a variety of other apps to help me learn, but found them frustrating for various reasons so I decided to write my own.
In particular, KanjiTree automatically tracks how good you are at remembering all the kanji and words. It focuses questions on those items you're still learning, without wasting too much of your time asking you things you already know. You don't have to worry about the tedious business of manually maintaining lists of flash cards
Many kanji are comprised of a combination of smaller kanji and radicals. Unfortunately, the order in which kanji are taught does not correspond to their visual complexity. So you are often expected to remember complex looking kanji before you have learned their component parts.
KanjiTree helps in this regard, by displaying hints about each kanji's component parts if you take too long to answer. This helps you make logical connections in your brain, which helps you get the information into your medium-term memory and dramatically speeds up the learning process.
From there, it's just a question of practicing repeatedly so that the information moves into your brain's language centre. KanjiTree encourages you to come back and practice by showing a detailed illustration of your progress.
Roadmap:
• Verb conjugation tutorial / tool.
• Writing tutorial
Learn kanji the same way that Japanese children do.
• Search by drawing.
