This app was produced by the Guide Tohoku Steering Committee, comprised of members including the Tohoku Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism. It has been designed to provide a wide variety of information about the 6 prefectures making up the Tohoku area, across fields such as tourism, infrastructure, and earthquake/tsunami-related information.■ About “Guide Tohoku” On March 11th 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake hit the Tohoku Region. More than 18,000 people died or went missing, and the disaster-impacted area was filled with more than 20 million tons of debris. After the earthquake, we received a great deal of both international and domestic support, allowing recovery to proceed smoothly. Now, progress has made traces of the disaster undetectable in many places within the impacted areas. We resolved to gather the remaining facts pertaining to the disaster as well as a variety of stories related to the recovery effort for future generations before such information fades away. It is from this idea that “Guide Tohoku” was born. Furthermore, our aim is to not only archive any disaster related information, “Guide Tohoku” was created using articles, pictures, and videos from many partners who are familiar with this region, such as government officials, business persons, residents, and visitors.
