Before we get into the Ascension review, I want to tell you guys my thoughts about the previous God of War games. About two months ago I went and picked up the God of War Saga (5 games for only $40) and it was a great deal. I beat all five games in a very short time and completely fell in love with each of those games. So I was very excited to finally pick GOW Ascension up!

In case you don't know, Ascension is a preque to the entire series. This alone, is kind of a turn off, since you know Kratos will come out alive because there are five other games he has to be in. One thing that they do take advantage of, is they try to tell a very personal story and it ends up giving Kratos a few extra layers.

Gameplay in Ascension has been tweaked a bunch. Fighting is as realized as ever, you have new moves and animations that all work great! Its also a complete blast to just kill dozens of enemies at once. The only main weapon you get in the Blades of Chaos, that can then be upgraded as usual. You also have abilities that enhance the blades, like the Fire of Ares. You can also pick up enemy weapons, but they are disposable. Platforming, specifically climbing, seems way slowed down then it has in previous installments. It just takes away from the fast pace that the game has.
