Our aim is to advance, promote and encourage generally, and by means of the amateur festival movement in particular, the study and practice of the arts of music, dance, speech, literature and acting. Most of our festivals are competitive and the performers receive verbal and written educational feedback from a professional adjudicator in each classification of music, dance or speech. The skills they develop can be put to use in interviews, at work, in leisure activities and in relationships throughout their lives. We have almost 300 amateur festivals affiliated to the Federation and a similar number of professional adjudicators, in all classes, listed in our YearBook and on our website. Each year our festivals attract around 1 million performers reaching an audience of around 5 million worldwide.In recent years we have run summer courses at Haileybury College in Hertfordshire. Our award-winning music course 'European Youth Summer Music' (EYSM) is a weeklong residential course for orchestral and vocal musicians aged 11-21, with Junior EYSM for younger musicians aged 8-10.
