Deepender Singh Hooda was first elected to the fourteenth Lok Sabha (in 2006) as a MP from Rohtak (Haryana) at the young age of 27. His unwavering commitment to education, to creation of economic opportunities in his constituency,to infrastructure development and to rural development earned him a thumping victory by a record margin (of about 4 and a half Lakh votes) when he sought re-election to Lok-Sabha for a second term beginning 2010. These issues continue to be his focus in the second term as well.

An engineering graduate, and an MBA from the prestigious Kelley School of Business at the Indiana University (USA), Deepender's education and diverse corporate experiences (both in India and abroad) give him a good foundation and the worldview to address the growing challenges of today's India and its future.

Hooda actively serves on several important bodies including-

Vice-Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society;

Member of Council of Indian Institutes of Technology (Member of Advisory Board to IITs);

Member, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance;

Member, Consultative Committee on External Affairs;

Chairperson, Indo-Uk Forum of Parliamentarians

to name a few.

Coming from a state with a rich heritage of sports, and a keen sportsperson himself, Deepender is also actively involved with sports bodies. Currently, he is the Vice President, All India Tennis Association; President, Haryana Football Association; and the President of Haryana Wrestling Association.

Hooda is a third-generation Parliamentarian from a family with a rich political heritage extending over four generations. His father, Ch. Bhupinder Singh Hooda is in his second term as the Chief Minister of Haryana. Deepender's grandfather, Ch. Ranbir Singh was an noted freedom fighter, an eminent parliamentarian and one of the founding fathers of India (by virtue of him being a member of the Consituent Assembly of India (1946-1950) which in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's leadership was responsible for drafting the Constitution of India).

As a committed young leader, Deepender is actively involved in the modernization of the Youth Congress under the leadership of Shri Rahul Gandhi. Areas of agriculture, economic growth oriented policies, and employment find Deepender's passionate involvement, both in his constituency and at a broader national level.
