A Bezier curve is a complex smooth curve defined by a relatively few number of points. For example, in the animation given in this app, a fairly complex smooth curve is defined by only four points.
The curve is named after the French engineer, Pierre Bézier, who used it in the design of the body of the Renault car (~1970) (it should be noted that scaling from the drafting board to the showroom is not a problem).
There are multiple uses such as: Adobe Postscript, fonts, TrueType font, bridges, animated paths (Microsoft Windows Silverlight), etc., etc.
The most common type of Bézier curves are 'cubic' (four points) and 'quadratic' (three points).
