The shedlings are getting ready for their birthday party in three fun, preschool math activities for young kids. All the activities are focussed on counting up to 10.

Help the baker put the right number of candles on the birthday cake. Get it right and a boingy balloon is yours to play with. How many balloons can you get boinging around the screen?

Help the postman deliver the cards to the correct shedling by knocking on the shed the right number of times. Get it right and your garden will grow. Get it wrong and the shedlings will be sad.

Choose the birthday card that matches the number of candles on the birthday cake. Do it enough times and you will have a balloon piano to play on.

The maths games are carefully designed with important early math focuses in mind and, between them, offer a variety of counting situations that are necessary for under fives to experience.

In the baker and postman activities, children have to count out the correct number of things to match a given numeral. As it is possible to count out too many or too few things, these activities challenge children to decide for themselves when they have reached the correct number - an important skill in real life.

The baker game uses items that remain on screen and can therefore be recounted at any time. The postman game uses sounds and actions as the child knocks the shed door, so they have to remember the number they have reached.

In the third game, children have to count the candles on a cake and then pick the correctly numbered birthday card from a choice of four, practising both their counting skills and their recognition of numerals.
